Nanaimo…? Nonono

Well the ferry journey was good (takes about 1.45hours) and I did venture onto the sundeck for a while and gave my hair a very interesting new style!!

We got a cab easy enough and headed straight to a place called Milton Street public House!

Such a descriptive name as it was indeed a public house situated on Milton Street! We headed there for lunch as both were pretty hungry by this point as it was after 1pm.

Lunch was lovely (though being sat near the men’s toilet..no sorry restrooom, did provide some interesting aromas!).

We headed on into the Old City Quarter which I was hoping would be really interesting with little local inde shops and cafes etc. hmm well maybe it is really interesting when the shops are open! Pretty much all of it was closed. As was the museum which had also sounded interesting! In fact the whole town felt closed and shutdown it was just really not all that!

I think I actually said it feels like a place people come to die. Dan said it felt like a place in some movie or detective series where it was set in a town that had once been something but was now rundown and dodgy 😂.

We went round the harbour and soon established there really wasn’t anything to see / do so we got a drink at a place overlooking the water and from there moved to another bar and indulged in Happy Hour!!

I really struggled through the day though with tiredness and felt so drained..guess jet lag decided to give me a whack around the face.

Anyway, time to get back to the ferry soon came so we eagerly got our shit together and headed off back to the ferry terminal..

Sorry Nainamo but you were a nonono for us!!

Ah you live and learn I guess. We had always intended that we would go to Victoria on Vancouver Island but clearly hadn’t done much research on actual travel time to get there. All I had done was check out ferries - regularity/crossing time etc.

As it was, from leaving our hotel it would have been nearly 4 hours later before we’d have arrived in Victoria with the same length of time for getting back not to mention pretty steep taxi fares given we’re nearly an hour for the terminal here and it’s about 45 mins from the terminal on the island to Victoria.

Just didn’t stack up for us to be able to get a decent time there without staying over so we switched to Nanaimo…and it just didn’t work out. But we had a boat ride and got out and about so it’s all good. And me being soooo tired I doubt I could have coped with much more to be honest.

I had a decent nap on the ferry on the way home whilst Dan went and watched the sunset on deck.

Dinner at Earls Testing Kitchen when we got back amd yeah that had a weird moment. As we arrived and asked for a table she said they could accommodate and asked for my phone number. I gave it her and she said ‘Sarah’?? I was somewhat weirded out by that.. how can she get access to my name from my phone number?? I thought that was private??

Anyway, nice meal and a glass of wine there and then back to the hotel and in bed by 10.30… ahh it felt so good..

Hopefully we’ll be all refreshed for Tuesday and the next boat trip for Whale watching 👏🏻☺️
