It’s Friday I’m in love…with Canada
How is it Friday already? This week has just flown by but we’ve still got so much amazing stuff to come!
We headed out, as we do each day, for breakfast and today it was at The Bohemian cafe about 10mins walk from where we are staying. Delicious breakfast again but I’m starting to struggle a little with such big rich breakfasts.
After eating we set off on a lovely walk along the lakeside and into/through the cultural quarter.
As we arrived back in downtown we stopped at BNA beers..somewhere Dan had had his eye on for a while!
Just one in there for me and we carried on and headed over to King Taps, which overlooks the lake, with the intention of lunch but ended up with just another drink or two as we were still full!
Oh and finally, FINALLY, my nails got noticed!! The lovely person serving us commented on them almost straightaway!
Can’t believe it’s taken this long!!
Our original plan for Kelowna, as its Wine county, was to go on a wine tour but before we flew to Canada we decided against it and said that we would do our own wine tour of the local wine bars instead and make sure we only drink the wines from here.
I thought that was a rather smart idea!
THEN I started drinking Old Fashioned’s in the bar last night and asking the barman about the differences in Bourbon and he suggested we tried a Whisky tasting session at one of the distillery bars as his knowledge was limited and they could tell me loads!
So yeah, that became the new plan ☺️.
The day turned out to be a really beautiful, warm sunny day and we were both happy that we decided against the wine tour. We just couldn’t have face sitting in a mini bus being ferries around etc as we wanted to be out and about so our new plan seemed perfect!
Genuinely couldn’t believe I was marching around a place in Canada in October in shorts..I was never expecting that whilst I was here …ok well maybe I was given I packed shorts!!
After King of Taos we made our way via the hotel for me to get changed into jeans as it was really cooling down, to the distillery room.
Bring on the Bourbon.. I kept getting in a muddle as I completely disassociate whisky from Bourbon but here Whisky is the umbrella term for them all. (Or is that everywhere???) So I had to remember to refer to the drink I cannot stand as ‘single malt’!!
The tasting session was fun and was 3 tasters for $10 with that money knocked off any bottle you bought.
Stupidly I knocked back the first after having a tiny sip of it and finding I couldn’t stand it! It was WHISKEY!
Oooh I had a warm tummy after that as my lovely friend Jen would say (meaning slightly tipsy!!).
I took the other two more slowly and really enjoyed the Rye, which the person doing our tasting thought I really wouldn’t given my aversion to the first one! Maybe I was feeling the effects or maybe I was determined to prove her wrong but whichever, we bought a bottle to bring home 😂.
We wandered out of there and back into Craft for a quick beer whilst we decided where next.
Getting very hungry now as not eaten since breakfast so we’ve decided it’s a pizza night!
(Obviously after I had looked at almost every menu in town to see what I thought I *might* fancy eating! Dan has known since around 11am that he wanted pizza tonight 🤣)
Pizza was amazing at Antico Pizza Napoletana. We got served by a little robot playing Italian music!!
In there we realised we were both done with drinking and being out so we decided to head back to the hotel and have a nice chilled evening so we could be up and at it for the drive to Banff tomorrow.
Dan wanted to go in the outdoor hotel pool and I was happy to read my book in the room. So that’s what we did after pizza…well ok via the Irish pub first!! Which we almost dared ourselves to go to as normally we avoid the ‘Irish Pub’ on holidays like the plague. Of course there was very little vaguely Irish about it, the servers were all wearing tartan kilts ffs!! But it was ok!
Anyway, it’s now 7.30pm, D is in the pool and I am chilling in the room drinking water and we’re both LOVING IT!!
Another big drive tomorrow and one that should bring so many amazing views too.
Yep, it’s time for the Canadian Rockies..bring it on Banff!!
Loving the blogs! Can’t wait for the next instalment, as it’s 29 years since we did a similar trip, which included Banff. Interesting to see how it’s changed.
