What an adventure that was..
Another terrible nights sleep thanks to the cold and loud snoring (Dan’s not mine). He is thinking he now has a cold but he gave it me in the first place I am sure!!
I had hoped on this last morning in Vancouver to get out for a walk over to Stanley Park to see the Totem Poles as we didn’t get there last time. But the weather had other ideas. It was lashing down.. By all accounts Vancouver is actually known is Raincouver!
As we were a little time limited given we had to check out at 11.30 and this was a 1.5-2hour round trip, I couldn’t really afford to wait for the rain to subside a little either..I needed time for drying off and getting changed when I got back. So we just vegged around the room, sorted all the cases out and Dan went and got us breakfast.
Checked out and left our cases with the hotel and headed out for a bit of a wander. It was still raining…
I’d said I’d buy a friend some particular crisps that you can only seem to find in N America and also I wanted to bring some of these Dill Pickle flavoured ones I’d found so we headed for a little mini mart to get some of those and then went to a cafe for a brew whilst the rain died off a bit.
It really felt like we were just wasting good time in Vancouver but we really had little choice as we didn’t want to get soaked as we were now in our travel home clothes and the hotel had already said they couldn’t really offer us any facilities for showers or drying off etc though we could use the toilets if we wanted!
Popped to a drugstore after we finished at the cafe so I could get some decongestant for the flight home (and I also bought a tub of Melatonin tablets π).
Then we just hung about the hotel for a little while and then we got our shit together and headed for the airport.
We took the Skytrain this time for something different - it’s a driverless train that Holly had mentioned the day before in the train and said it was a much better way of getting there as it avoided all the traffic.
She also told us that when it was first set up, barely anyone would ride it due to the driverless aspect so they out cardboard cutouts where the driver might sit and the uptake grew significantly π.
It was great, perfectly hassle free and takes you right to the airport.
Bag drop and security were a breeze and before we knew it we were sipping Bloody Mary’s in the posh lounge. It was really nice in this one with full waiter service and an a la carte menu service too, as well as the ‘buffet’.
Before we knew it m, it was time to board the plane and we were happily settled in to our Business class suites. We both chose window seats this time so Dan was sat behind me.
I got a 2nd welcome glass of champers as I’d ’charmed’ the attendant. Dan was SO jealous!! He proper shouted out ‘hey, how did you get that’?? As he saw her deposit a very full glass of bubbles in my ‘suite’!
Hehehehe π₯ (She’d actually offered to just bring me the bottle with a straw at one point π)
Sunny was the main person that was serving us today and he was lovely. He was so pleased i’d asked for the English sparking wine for my post take off drink that he kept dashing back to top me up!!
Food was lovely again and I watched ‘The Phoenician Scheme’ which I really enjoyed and then started ‘Mobland’ which I was hooked on almost instantly. I now need to sign up to that channel to watch the rest of it. I’m 5 episodes in and fully invested!
Didn’t get that much sleep but was very comfy and did rest..cos I mean my last couple of days had been SO active!!
Landed on time and then we found our way to the lounge at Heathrow. Again it was so so busy and just not that comfortable I don’t think but I guess it can depend on where you manage to get a seat.
Passed the time away reading my book and then we headed off for the final leg of the journey home.
And just as I knew it would be, it was delayed. Fog at Mcr Airport so we had an hour or so delay but aboard the plane. This was so they could try to edge their way to an earlier time slot as the fog was clearing which made sense!
Which worked as we took off about 45 mins later.
And so now I’m home, showered, mostly unpacked and with a wash on. Feet up on the sofa making myself stay awake until normalish bed time.
Wow, what a time we have had. It was everything we’d hoped for and more and on the whole, all went totally to plan!
Not going to lie though, it is very tiring doing a holiday this way. Different hotels, living out of suitcases, busy/active days and lots of driving does take it out of you and we’re together 24/7 which is not easy for anyone really - definitely not me!!
But the places we have been, the stunning sights & the experiences far outweigh the tiredness.
And I’m happy I will have this blog to go back to anytime I /we want to relive it all..in detail!!
And to those of you that have been avidly (or occasionally) reading about our adventures and commenting on it either here or directly to us- thank you! I write this as a memory dump for me and Dan which is why I go into random details at times as it all helps take us right back there. I’m telling us two the story of our time here if that makes sense.
But I can’t lie, it’s been lovely hearing that other people have been enjoying it along with us!!
Now, where is that long awaited Marmite on toast. Oohhh how I have missed you!!
